Accepting applications for our 2018 festival beginning in early Spring.

The Outlet Dance Project's Dance on Film Festival features a variety of short films directed and/or choreographed by women-identifying artists. This year, the evening-length event will be held on October 5th, 2017 at 7pm. The Friday evening screening will be followed by a brief Q & A with the filmmakers and choreographers (attendance is not required.) At least two films will be selected to also be screened throughout the day on October 7th (the live performance portion of the festival).

We seek short dance-films that not only show excellence in this genre, but ideally, have connections to site-specificity, architecture, and/or sculpture as well. The festival is open to artists who identify or have identified as women everywhere.

Thank you for your interest in being a part of The Outlet Dance Project. Submissions for 2017 are due no later than 11.59pm EST, August 10th, 2017. Proposed films should be 15 minutes or less. Though you are welcome to submit works in progress, priority consideration will be given to complete films. If you prefer to send us a DVD, please email us for address instructions. Film applicants will be informed about submission decisions no later than the 3rd week in August. Please see submission guidelines below.

You may submit up to two film proposals per application fee (or one film and one live performance proposal per application fee). If you are submitting both a film proposal and live performance proposal, please separate the proposals and send in two different emails, one with: Films 2017. Your Name in the subject line, and one with Day of Dance: Site Specific. Your Name or Day of Dance: Staged Work. Your Name in the subject line, noting your application fee receipt number in both. Whether or not your film is selected, you will be entitled to a complementary ticket for the Friday evening event as part of your application fee.

If your film is chosen for screening, you must provide a downloadable .mov file so we can place all films in sequence.

With your submission, please include:

• Filmmaker's contact information: name, address, phone number, website (if available) and email

• Online link to the film you would like us to consider. Please be sure to include a password, if your film is password protected. Please email for instructions if you prefer to send a DVD.

• Letter of interest. Include how you heard about us, how you see your work fitting into the festival, and how you will promote the event, if selected. Please also mention if you are able to attend the event. Not being able to attend will not affect your selection. 

• Description of the film (one paragraph or less).

• Artist/s biographies (one paragraph or less each).

  • ​​This festival is run by volunteers and with the generous donation of space and publicity from Grounds for Sculpture. This small application fee helps defray costs and garners you a complimentary ticket to the festival.
